Margate Rendezvous EIA, Kent

CampbellReith was appointed by Kent County Council in 2013 to take forward a planning application for the redevelopment of the environmentally sensitive Rendezvous Site as a Hotel and Tourism Hub for Margate The development was granted consent in 2014.

CampbellReith was appointed as Civil, Structural, Environmental and Transportation Engineers for the scheme, which incorporates restaurants, luxury apartments and a new 4 star hotel all built into and over existing cliffs and bridge structures. Located next to a Special Protection Area (SPA), project required detailed consideration of the ecological and geotechnical issues involved in excavation into existing chalk cliffs, and the work was informed by full abseil surveys.

CampbellReith screened and scoped the requirement for EIA. Despite the environmental challenges, we successfully limited the scope of the EIA process and avoided the need for Habitat Regulations Assessments on the adjacent SPA. CampbellReith wrote and coordinated the Environmental Statement.

CampbellReith prepared a full Flood Risk Assessment was prepared for the site including detailed overtopping modelling and assessment of flood levels, and developed a detailed remediation strategy that overcame the challenging issues.
